True Kenyans

This is the story of Kenya. A story of women and men who defy the odds and never give up. People who wake up so early and retire so late in the day, working hard for the sake of this country. They want Kenya to get ahead. But at times they have been let down, and they seek their country back. They do not teach us manners, but they show us manner.a manner of tolerance and forbearance.
We must do something to help this country. And as we seek to do so, Harriet Tubman has one piece of advice: If you hear the dogs, keep going. If you see the torches in the woods, keep going. If they’re shouting after you, keep going. Don’t ever stop. Keep going. If you want a taste of freedom, keep going.

Even in the darkest of moments, ordinary Kenyans have found the faith to keep going. I have seen it in those who go nights without food, yet their optimism is written all over. I have seen it in the conductors who often show their hope as they gyrate on the doors of the Matatus. I have seen it in the in teachers, and farmers, small business owners and construction workers, all men and women of humility who always keep going.

We are Kenyans. We are not big on quitting.

We have a duty to build that bright future. We do not need to be politicians to achieve this. We have to learn from each other for we all are unique in a separate way. We are the country of Tom Mboya. We are the country of Wangari Maathai. We are the country of Kipchoge Keino. We are the country of Robert Wangila. We are the country of Jua Cali. We are the country of Gor Mahia. We are that country where there is there is no chasm too deep, no barrier too great and no ceiling too high for all who work hard and those who never back down.
