Beautiful Kenya
From the snow-capped Mount Kenya to the flower farms of Oserian, from the Ewaso Nyiro to the rugged hills of Cherangani, from the spectacular shores and beaches of south coast to the abardare forests, Africa is richly endowed by nature. The unparalleled length of the Tana, the vastness of the Rift Valley, the unequalled beauty of the wildlife of the Tsavo, the captivating charm of the coastline are but a few of the descriptions of Kenya ’s natural beauty.
Kenya’s fluorspar, Limestone, soda ash and many other minerals have long decorated the offices and houses in many parts of the country and beautified the rich and famous of the country. The bounty of Kenya’s tea, the aroma of the coffee from our beautiful hills, the mouth-watering variety of fruits from our lands, the Nile Perch from lake Victoria and se food from the shores of Indian Ocean are again only a fraction of what Kenya offers the world.
More than anything, however, the beauty of Africa is its people. We are a mosaic of over ethnic groups, a variety of languages and a multitude of cultures and histories. Some of us are intellectuals, others sedentary, others nomads, many farmers, some herdsmen, some fishers and others scientists. Some are highly educated others just literate. Some are very successful and prosperous but still many others not so fortunate. Each have their own unique history, culture and pride.
Though many when classified and grouped, the people of Kenya are also inseparably woven together by a common destiny, history and a unique oneness underpinned by common values. Hospitality in the midst of adversity and willingness to joyfully share ones resources even in a situation of scarcity and need are two of these values that never end to fascinate me. The beauty of this nation does not end in itself. Although wounded and hurt, bruised and abused – including by some of its own children, Kenya is one of the precious jewels of both ancient and modern civilization.
Despite all the evils that have been inflicted against its people, history, culture and nationhood, Kenya has proved its potential, resilience and perseverance time and again. A large number of Kenya’s precious children have shown the world that they can excel in all fields and occupations. They rule the world in athletics. They surprise big rugby nations. They conceive, coordinate and manage large business enterprises. They excel in the Arts and literature to name a few. Many have also shown that Kenya is capable of leading the entire human race on the path of peace, brotherhood and cooperation. I am so glad that I do not have to provide you with a list of the names of these Africans today as, undoubtedly, many of them are very well known to you.
