Why Raila is having an Adele Moment
WHY RAILA ODINGA AND ADELE ARE SINGING THE SAME SONGS
Adele has been phenomenal. Her rise to the top of the music world in 2009, has seen her, according to music critics, topple the likes of Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Diana Ross when it comes to a larynx that delivers that almost impossible note. She is currently riding high with her Album titled 21, which has been achieved a unique fete in being number one in over 20 different countries in the music charts. This is the Album that has two of the most talked about songs, both of which won her Grammy accolades, Rolling in the deep and Someone Like You! What is interesting is that the two songs tell a true story about Adele’s love life. Rejected by her boyfriend, she decided to heal by putting what she was going through into music. In her interview with Anderson Cooper, Adele says that Rolling in the Deep was song she on the defense, trying to show she is a strong person even though it is not what she was going through, just like many people like putting a brave face in face of adversity. Someone Like you was the story of what her heart was really feeling
Raila Odinga on his part has been a key political player in the country. His experience in the political world spans over three decades. He has perhaps, done it all, seen it all, except the rise to occupy the State House. After contested 2007 elections which forced the creation of the position of a Prime Minister, Raila Odinga must be a man on a mission to replace the retiring Mwai Kibaki as president of the republic of Kenya. However, things have not been so rosy especially with the rebellion of deputy party leader and would be running mate Musalia Mudavadi. It is expected Musalia will bolt out of the party any time soon. This will leave Raila, just like Adele, a hurt man! This is where RAO, as he is popularly called, and a man who loves the poetic nature of music and proverbs, needs an Adele moment for inspiration. While the British born Adele has been able to use her misfortune to get a huge fortune, only time will tell if Raila will be able to turn a Mudavadi walks out into a voter walk in!
This is what I envisage Raila to be singing the song Someone Like you, of course directed to Musalia Mudavadi
"
I heard that you're settled down, that you found a party and you are a presidential candidate.
I heard that your dreams came true. Guess the new party gave you things I didn't give to you.
Old friend, why are you so shy? Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light.
I hate to turn up out of the blue, uninvited, But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I had hoped you'd see my face in the media and that you'd be reminded
that for me, it ends in the ballot.
Never mind, I'll find someone like you.
I wish nothing but the best for you, too.
Don't forget me, I begged, I remember you said
sometimes it lasts in politics, but sometimes it hurts instead.
Sometimes it lasts in campaigns, but sometimes it hurts instead
You know how the time flies only yesterday was the time of our lives.
We were both criss crossing the country seeking votes,
bound by the surprise of our glory days to come if ODM won.
Nothing compares, no worries or cares.
Regrets and mistakes, they're memories made.
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?”.
How would Raila have sung ‘Rolling in deep?” maybe he would tell Musalia they would have had it all! Whatever way things turn in the next few days, Raila definitely is having an Adele moment!
