Mike Mbuvi Sonko

We may term him as the new kid on the block. Maybe he is not kidding when it comes to outwitting politicians who are seasoned. Just as his  name 'Mbuvi' could be loosely translated to mean the one who tenders softly, perhaps the people of Makadara now have a soft solution to problems they only know too well.

I do not know Mike. Not to be left behind in knowing the person everybody is talking, or the talk everybody is having about the man, I have been reading his page on this site. I would want to believe this is his official page. Granted it is, then the people of Makadara are really a gifted lot. They know a lot about democracy. Oh Dennis Ole Itumbi would remind me her tht democracy can only be about numbers when punctuated with fairness! Well I would want to believe the people of Makadara had a good reason for electing their favoured son, whose wallets can open up more than manna can from heaven.

But my question is, who is this Honourable member of parliament? Is he really honourable? Look at his information on his page on this site and you will know what I am talking about when I say Kenyans are a serious lot. I would want to think majority of Kenyans now are in the digital divide. Many are accessing the social sites. Moreover, granted by the number of fans he has, I tend to believe a huge chunk of those who voted for him are on this site!

But for a man who cannot spell the word 'Problem', there is disaster ahead for the people of Makadara if not a lot of problems. But what made me laugh but then think and ponder is what he terms as his interests; "Solution to all problemms facing you in Constituency e.g. Funerals". Hold it there. This man knows something that I do not. That deaths will be a common thing in Makadara and his platform therefore is pegged on such deaths! Hmmm...pray tell me, why not address the causes of such deaths?

Well, my fellow youth. We continue to make ourselves a laughing stock. Go on, read the comments that are posted by so many youth on the page of Sonko and you will believe me when I say that the change we really need is you and me and not the politicians. My dear friends, no oner will ever give you anything on a silver platter. You got to fight for what is rightfully yours. For those who watched America Got Talent 2010, that is the story ten year old Jackie Evancho taught us all, that you reap what you sow and that nothing and absolutely no one can stop you from getting whatever you wish for.

Maybe I am wrong. How much I would want Mike to prove me to be no more than Matheos Gudu in the story of Refugee in the anthology Looking for a Rain God, who had thought that he could win over Abiyo the girl, just because she was a refugee and little did he know that she was an intellectual with well manicured knowledge of politics, literature and economics.

We are always reminded that for ten years Caesar ruled with an iron hand. Then with a wooden foot, and finally with a piece of string. I do not where we fall in.
